SUMMARY:Bird-Friendly Campus Discussion Forum
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Monday\, March 23rd from 5:30-7pm for an open discussion forum on how we can make Queen’s a bird-friendly campus! Situated along a key ecological corridor for many local and migratory bird species\, Queen’s has a fundamental role to play in protecting our native bird populations\, but bird collisions with windows are a major source of mortality in urban environments like Kingston. Kingston is now making strides to become part of the national Bird Friendly City program by Nature Canada\, and as a student-led group at Queen’s University\, we want to make sure Queen’s can contribute to this amazing initiative! For more information and to learn more about the Society for Conservation Biology Kingston Chapter’s initiatives\, please make sure to follow us on Instagram @scb_kingston or check out our (new!) website at https://scbkingston.ca/ \n\n\nEnglish\, In-Person\, SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities\, SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production\, SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals\, SDG 4: Quality Education

SUMMARY:Electrici-T Challenge: Energy Data and Sustainability Analytics
DESCRIPTION:The Electrici-T Challenge\, organized by the Financial Research and Learning Lab\, is an applied learning competition that engages students in analyzing Canada’s electricity sector through data-driven sustainability assessment. \n\n\n\nUsing professional financial and energy datasets\, participants build interactive dashboards to evaluate major utility companies while integrating key performance indicators such as emissions intensity\, renewable energy generation\, and ESG performance. The challenge strengthens students’ technical\, analytical\, and critical thinking skills. \n\n\n\nThrough hands-on data exploration and collaborative problem-solving\, students gain practical insight into how energy systems\, public policy\, and corporate strategy intersect in the transition to low-carbon economies. The activity promotes evidence-based decision-making and responsible investment perspectives. \n\n\n\nThe competition format fosters teamwork\, accountability\, and leadership\, while encouraging innovation in sustainability reporting and performance evaluation. \n\n\n\nThis activity supports SDG Month Canada by advancing Affordable and Clean Energy (SDG 7)\, Climate Action (SDG 13)\, Industry\, Innovation and Infrastructure (SDG 9)\, Quality Education (SDG 4)\, and Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12)\, while building future-ready sustainability and data competencies. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEnglish\, In-Person\, SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities\, SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production\, SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals\, SDG 4: Quality Education

SUMMARY:Supporting Bear-Responsive Habitats: Invasive Pull & Native Species Planting
DESCRIPTION:Join EarthWorks and CapU Groundskeeper Jo-Ann Cook for a hands-on habitat workshop designed to support healthier human-bear coexistence. In this practical outdoor session\, campus community members will: \n\n\nIdentify invasive plant species that disrupt local ecosystems and may unintentionally attract wildlife \n\n\nLearn how landscaping choices influence bear foraging patterns \n\n\nRemove targeted invasive species from campus grounds \n\n\nReplant native species support biodiversity and stable habitat systems \n\n\nGain insight into how small\, collective actions can shape larger ecological outcomes. \n\n\nThis workshop offers a tangible way to contribute to campus stewardship while deepening your understanding of bear ecology and habitat dynamics. No prior experience required\, just curiosity and a willingness to get your hands dirty.

SUMMARY:Innovation Sprint Course on Designing a More Sustainable Future: Innovation Sprint (SDG 12)
DESCRIPTION:Designing a More Sustainable Future is a three-day\, credit-bearing Innovation Sprint that engages undergraduate students from across faculties in designing prevention-oriented\, regenerative solutions to sustainability challenges. \n\n\n\nFocused on SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production\, the Sprint invites students to explore how products and services can be designed from the outset to prevent waste and pollution\, while creating long-term environmental\, social\, and economic value. Participants apply systems thinking and circular design principles to rethink production and consumption models. \n\n\n\nWorking in interdisciplinary teams\, students conduct research\, co-design strategies\, and develop evidence-informed prototypes under time constraints. The intensive format strengthens problem-solving\, collaboration\, and leadership skills while grounding learning in real-world contexts. \n\n\n\nStudents who successfully complete the Sprint earn 1.5 academic credits and contribute to applied sustainability initiatives that address pressing global challenges. The pass/fail structure encourages experimentation\, reflection\, and learning through practice. \n\n\n\nThis activity supports SDG Month Canada by advancing Quality Education (SDG 4)\, Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12)\, Industry\, Innovation and Infrastructure (SDG 9)\, and Climate Action (SDG 13)\, while building future-ready sustainability leadership.
