SUMMARY:SDG Month Seminar Series: Spotlight on SDG 4 - Quality Education
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an engaging and interactive session focused on SDG 4: Quality Education\, part of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. This seminar will explore what advancing inclusive and equitable education looks like at Brock! From teaching and learning innovation to how we perform on SDG 4 within institutional ranking frameworks. \n\n\n\nWhat we’ll cover: \n\n\n\n\nBrock’s current positioning on SDG 4 in global sustainability rankings\n\n\n\nInitiatives that support accessible\, inclusive\, and high-quality learning experiences\n\n\n\nHow students\, staff\, and faculty can contribute to strengthening educational equity and improving our impact and rankings\n\n\n\nOpportunities to get involved through research\, curriculum\, community partnerships\, and campus engagement\n\n\n\n\nWe’ll conclude the session with a featured research presentation by Dr. Mohammed Estaiteyeh\, whose work examines equitable access to educational technologies in marginalized and underserved communities. His research highlights how gaps in digital access and infrastructure shape educational outcomes and what institutions can do to bridge those divides. \n\n\nEnglish\, In-Person\, SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities\, SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production\, SDG 13: Climate Action\, SDG 15: Life On Land\, SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals\, SDG 2: Zero Hunger\, SDG 4: Quality Education\, SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth\, SDG 9: Industry\, Innovation and Infrastructure

SUMMARY:Sensing Bear Worlds: Co-Existence and the Ecological Imagination
DESCRIPTION:How might a black bear experience the CapU campus? \nA bear’s sense of smell is roughly 2\,100 times more acute than ours — where we see a green campus edging into forest\, a bear reads a dense\, layered archive of scent: fruiting shrubs\, the pull of the nearby Lynn creek\, the memory of seasons past. In a continuation of our work on International Bear Day\, we invite you to let that perspective stretch your ecological imagination. \nStep into the CapU forest and experiment with watercolour as a way of attuning to what you might otherwise miss — the damp layering of the ravine\, the textures and shadows that a more-than-human world is always composing around us. What might it feel like to know this forest the way a bear does?

SUMMARY:SDG Panel: Teaching for a Better Future
DESCRIPTION:Are you interested in making your teaching more relevant and connected to today’s global challenges? This interactive workshop will introduce practical ways to connect your course with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and meaningfully integrate sustainability into your discipline. \n\n\n\nA highlight of the session will be a panel of four Sustainability Faculty Fellows who will share their stories of bringing sustainability into their courses. You’ll have the opportunity to ask questions to learn what worked\, what was challenging\, and how students responded. We will also introduce a new AI tool designed to help you identify connections between sustainability and your own teaching. \n\n\n\nDuring the workshop\, you’ll have time to experiment with the tool and generate tailored ideas for your courses. By the end if this session you will have concrete strategies\, peer insights\, and practical tools to enrich your course and energize your students.

SUMMARY:Tending Space: Processing Climate Emotions Through a Nature-Based Lens
DESCRIPTION:This outdoor workshop invites participants to explore and process complex emotions related to climate change. Through guided nature-based practices\, we will create space to identify\, name\, and sit with the full range of feelings that arise when witnessing environmental change—from grief and overwhelm to gratitude and inspiration. Grounded in therapeutic principles\, this reflective and educational experience offers permission to feel\, to be witnessed\, and to cultivate a deeper understanding of how climate emotions show up in our bodies\, minds\, and relationships. While facilitated by a registered clinical counsellor\, this workshop is designed to support personal exploration and learning in a group setting rather than serve as a therapy session.\nThis workshop is led by Emily Potts\, a Registered Clinical Counsellor\, with experience in climate science\, outdoor guiding\, and group facilitation. This workshop is not a therapy session and provides a space for learning and personal exploration in a group setting.

DESCRIPTION:The Entrepreneurship Hub Sustainability Treasure Hunt is an interactive\, campus-wide challenge designed to engage students in discovering how sustainability is embedded across the University of Ottawa. \n\n\n\nThrough a team-based scavenger hunt\, participants explore key sustainability initiatives\, services\, and spaces while learning how environmental\, social\, and economic responsibility is integrated into campus life. The activity promotes experiential learning\, collaboration\, and systems thinking in a fun and accessible format. \n\n\n\nStudents work in teams to solve clues\, complete sustainability-themed challenges\, and connect with campus partners. By navigating real spaces and programs\, participants gain a deeper understanding of how individual actions\, institutional structures\, and community engagement intersect to advance the Sustainable Development Goals. \n\n\n\nThe Treasure Hunt culminates in a friendly competition\, with one team receiving a cash prize and an equivalent donation made to a charitable organization in their name\, reinforcing social responsibility and collective impact. \n\n\n\nThis activity supports SDG Month Canada by advancing sustainability awareness\, student leadership\, and community engagement\, while contributing to Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11)\, Quality Education (SDG 4)\, and Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEnglish\, In-Person\, SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities\, SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production\, SDG 13: Climate Action\, SDG 15: Life On Land\, SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals\, SDG 2: Zero Hunger\, SDG 4: Quality Education\, SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth\, SDG 9: Industry\, Innovation and Infrastructure
