Free Store Pop-Up: Sharing for a Sustainable Campus

March 19 @ 10:00 am 3:00 pm EDT

The Free Store Pop-Up is a community-driven, zero-waste initiative that promotes reuse, resource sharing, and social inclusion within the university community.

Through this temporary “no-cost” marketplace, students, staff, and faculty are invited to donate gently used items and take what they need, fostering a culture of mutual support and responsible consumption. By eliminating financial barriers, the Free Store encourages equitable access to everyday goods while reducing unnecessary waste.

Participants engage directly with circular economy principles by extending the life cycle of products and diverting materials from landfill. The initiative also raises awareness about the environmental and social impacts of overconsumption and highlights practical, everyday actions that contribute to sustainability.

By creating an inclusive and welcoming space for exchange and learning, the Free Store strengthens community connections and promotes collective responsibility.

This activity supports SDG Month Canada by advancing Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12), Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10), Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11), and No Poverty (SDG 1), while reinforcing values of sharing, accessibility, and environmental stewardship.
